Hi, I’m Marcea
Nutrition Coach | Integrative TCM & Ayurvedic Nutrition Practitioner | Chef

This is Cooking Beyond The Plate
Beyond the Plate Philosophy
For me, cooking has never been simply about recipes. It is a way of living, connecting and coming home to ourselves.
Beyond the Plate is about nourishing the whole person — how we eat, move, rest, connect and care for ourselves.
My approach brings together Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and modern nutrition, with the simple pleasure of preparing and sharing good food. Through seasonal cooking, whole foods, fermentation and traditional food practices, Gutsy Goodness explores the connection between what we eat and how we feel.
Eating with the seasons invites us to listen to our bodies, adapt to change and cultivate resilience, vitality and wellbeing.
My classes are an invitation to slow down and reconnect — with food, nature, one another and ourselves.
The recipes are just the beginning. The deeper practice is learning how to live well.

It’s about practical ways to use spices, herbs, grains, beans, ferments and plant-based proteins to create meals that are nourishing, flavourful and achievable. Explore how seasonal living, mindful habits and the foods you eat can support your gut–brain connection, energy, immunity and a more balanced body and mind.
Holistic wellbeing grew from a journey of recurring illness and fertility challenges, which led me to explore Chinese herbal medicine, organic plant-based foods, fermentation, yoga and meditation. These practices transformed my approach to health and inspired me to share what I’ve learned through my books, classes and coaching — helping others discover the powerful connection between food, lifestyle and wellbeing.
Books and Philosophy
For more than 40 years, I have taught people across the US, London and Australia and published eight books in the US, England, Japan and Australia. My work has also appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, WellBeing and Nature & Health, and across SBS and ABC TV and Radio.
Over the years, my work has evolved into a way of bringing together:
- Seasonal wholefood cooking — drawing on TCM, Ayurveda and Indigenous Australian food wisdom.
- Fermentation — going beyond vegetables to explore fruits, grains and legumes, including the Japanese use of koji to make miso, amazake and natto.
- Gut–brain health — using diverse whole foods, fibre and traditional ferments to nourish the microbiome.
- Food, lifestyle and longevity — recognising that health is shaped by what we eat, how we live and how we connect with others.
My aim is to make nourishing food practical, delicious and meaningful — and to show how food can become part of a richer way of living.
